Carlos & Ana Freitas

Daniel, Salomé and Maria

We want to see and be a part of a gospel shaped, mission orientated, kingdom minded church in Coimbra, willing to serve the community. We would like to see more discipleship and 2 or 3 people joining the team, one of them being a national.

Carlos and Ana Freitas, together with their three children Maria, Daniel and Salomé are currently serving the Lord in Coimbra, Portugal. It is the region of Portugal where they grew up, Ana in an evangelical family where she converted to Christ at the age of 9, and Carlos, who came to faith through Ana’s testimony in a youth conference in 2001.

Following a period of time in Glasgow, Scotland, God laid upon our hearts the desire to come back to Portugal and work with the local churches. We have been working together with our local Brethren Church in Coimbra, and with IFES in Coimbra (Coimbra has one of the oldest universities in Europe and so the city has a strong academic culture). Coimbra needs a church where the gospel is contextualized and where the central focus is on life-transforming discipleship. Being a very religious country, one that skipped the reformation all together, the Roman Catholic faith is embedded in the DNA of the culture. Because of that, grace is one of the hardest concepts for a Portuguese to grasp.

Carlos and Ana Freitas are involved in church planting in the university city of Coimbra with special emphasis on student ministry.
